YES THEATER - HEBRON

The project

Name: Drama workshops

Drama as a safe space to express ourselves and enhance our confidence

Main objectives: Drama workshops

Improving the psycho-social wellbeing of children and adolescents in the Hebron District ;

Providing children a safe space to express themselves and to enhance their confidence through drama activities ;

1. To train a group of children and youngsters who will be able to benefit from theatre and drama activities and helping them to cope with their daily reality and to develop their self-awareness and their cooperative and creative skills ;

2. To strengthen the children's power, individually and collectively, to have a voice in their local community ;

3. To enhance the using of drama as an educational tool in the formal education.

Target groups:

The main target group is Palestinian children from the Hebron Governorate. YT will specifically target school students aged 8 - 12 years old. At this age, youth are still sensitive to transformation and therefore the project might have a direct effect on their lives. It is an age group where youth are still able to learn new values such as group work, non-violence communication, and how theatre and drama play a role in this.  Child by child, group by group, year by year, we hope these participants will be able to transfer the knowledge they gain from participating in this projects to others.

The indirect beneficiaries include other children, parents, and teachers, and the general local community. YT believes in the power of theatre and drama to enrich the lives of children and young people, to foster their understanding of their local heritage and culture, and to participate in building a nation with confident and responsible citizens who contribute to the success of their communities and to Palestine as a whole.

To develop a national profile for the theatre as a centre of excellence and a source of innovation.

Target groups of the organization

The main target group of Yes Theatre are school students, age 8-18, in the schools of the Palestinian Ministry of Education and UNRWA. These students are in a sensitive transforming stage of adolescence that will have great effects on their life. It is a critical age to introduce the values of team building, democracy and nonviolence by using drama and theatre. This will have a great impact on other children and will continue to influence them through their growing process. What they acquire will be transferred through them to the next generation and to their friends and families. Moreover, direct beneficiaries are school teachers and parents, but also families in general as well as anyone else attending the play and the workshops. The indirect beneficiaries are the local community at large, including cultural centers and other local NGOs.

Attached is the statistical report of YT during 2008. This report indicates the necessary data related to the direct beneficiaries, their number and distribution in accordance with their sex and age.
